Upon successful completion of this conference participants will be able to:


  • Identify components of a comprehensive multidimensional pain assessment;
  • Develop an ongoing pain management plan based on assessment and pathophysiology that includes both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions;
  • Identify barriers to appropriate pain management;
  • Describe the difference between addiction, physical dependence, tolerance and pseudoaddiction;
  • Discuss the principles of pharmacology as it relates to pain medications & pain treatment;
  • Discuss the role of psychology in the treatment of pain;
  • Exchange information and new ideas to enhance patient safety and comfort;
  • Evaluate trends, techniques, therapies, and diagnostic procedures in pain research and pain management;
  • Assemble a network of professional colleagues.
