Upon successful completion of this conference participants will be able to:
- Identify components of a comprehensive multidimensional pain assessment;
- Develop an ongoing pain management plan based on assessment and pathophysiology that includes both pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions;
- Identify barriers to appropriate pain management;
- Describe the difference between addiction, physical dependence, tolerance and pseudoaddiction;
- Discuss the principles of pharmacology as it relates to pain medications & pain treatment;
- Discuss the role of psychology in the treatment of pain;
- Exchange information and new ideas to enhance patient safety and comfort;
- Evaluate trends, techniques, therapies, and diagnostic procedures in pain research and pain management;
- Assemble a network of professional colleagues.
